Functional Medicine Health Coach
Knowing what to do is rarely the problem. Coaching is how a plan becomes something you actually do, and keep doing once you are home.
Functional Medicine health coaching goes beyond general health coaching. I trained with the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy, the only health coach certification designed in collaboration with The Institute for Functional Medicine. The intensive year-long programme covers Functional Medicine, functional nutrition, positive psychology, mind-body medicine, and mental health and trauma-informed coaching, preparing me to work alongside Functional Medicine doctors and integrative practitioners. It looks for the root cause of a problem rather than its symptoms, so our sessions draw on both Functional Medicine nutrition and health coaching, not coaching alone.
I graduated from the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy in 2024.
I work with you to set your own goals and find a way of reaching them that fits around your life. My training draws on positive psychology and evidence-based coaching techniques, so we work on mindset, motivation and the habits that hold change in place, not just the plan itself. Mindset decides whether any change holds.
I am also a qualified Functional Medicine Nutritionist. I graduated as a Nutritional Therapist from The College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2017, with advanced practice training from The Institute for Functional Medicine.
If changing your diet is part of your goals, your coaching is backed by professional nutrition expertise, a combination rarely found in one practitioner.
How we work together
We begin with what matters most to you, such as food plans, nutrient intake, weight, sleep, stress, energy, detoxification or work-life balance. One concern usually connects to many others, and we work through them together.
I work at your pace. Perhaps there is something you have wanted to change for years. That is a good place to start, and there is no judgement here.
How coaching works
As a behaviour change expert, I know that lasting change only happens when you are invested in it yourself. If I am the only one driving the process, any progress won’t last. So coaching is collaborative and led by you. Rather than handing you a list of instructions, I help you uncover what motivates you, build on your strengths, and create a realistic plan you own. Using techniques such as motivational interviewing, we close the gap between what you intend to do and what you actually do each day, so the changes last.
What coaching covers
Using Functional Medicine principles and positive psychology coaching techniques, I can help you to:
- understand your health plan, including your doctor’s plan of care
- make lifestyle changes, with tools and accountability along the way
- stay motivated
- make dietary changes or follow a food plan
- bring movement and exercise into your daily routine
- improve your sleep, manage stress and cultivate mindfulness
- nurture your mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, whatever spiritual means to you
- celebrate your successes as you progress
Where appropriate, I can also work alongside your own practitioner.
Why a Functional Medicine Health Coach
Research shows that people working with a coach are more likely to reach their health goals than those working alone.
Sessions
Functional Medicine health coaching sessions last approximately 60 minutes, online, by telephone, or in person at my retreat in Johnshaven from late January 2027.
Before we begin, I offer a short, free, no-obligation initial consultation by telephone, so we can both decide whether we are a good fit.
Functional Medicine health coaching supports, but does not replace, medical care. I do not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe treatments.
The retreat
For the most in-depth way to work with me, my health retreat in Johnshaven, opening around the end of January 2027, brings Functional Medicine health coaching, Functional Medicine nutrition and bio-resonance together, one to one, beside the sea. One person. My full attention. One day or two.
Foundation, one day, £775: a two to three hour Functional Medicine nutrition consultation, a Functional Medicine health coaching session, a comprehensive nutrition plan, printed guides, red light therapy and the PEMF mat, lunch at The Anchor Hotel, one follow-up coaching session and a signed copy of my book.
Immersion, two days, £1,400: everything in Foundation, with more in-depth nutrition and coaching, a second day to revisit your plan, bio-resonance, three follow-up coaching sessions, and time to enjoy the coastal path and the sea.
If you are unsure whether this is right for you, get in touch. A short conversation is often all it takes to begin.
